## Manage Basket

Whilst products can be manually added to the basket from the product listing (PLP) and [product details](https://redantdigital.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RET/pages/345899136) (PDP) pages, the most efficient way is to use the ‘SCAN’ function. This is typically used when the sales associate has the product in front of them.

### Scan products into the basket

If the sales associates' device has a built-in camera they can use this to “Scan” a product barcode, which will automatically add the associated product to the basket.

If the device doesn’t have a built-in camera, they can simply type in the EAN to add the product.

> ⚠️ Searching/scanning products by barcode is only supported if the retailer provides the `ean` in the product variant data.

As standard, we support the following International Article Number standards:

- UPC (Universal Product Number)
- EAN-13

> ℹ️ EANs can only contain numbers, and must be between 12 and 13 digits.

> 📝 For an uplift in licenses RetailOS can offer an elevated barcode scanning experience via an integration with Scandit. More information can be found [here](https://redantdigital.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RET/pages/509804644).

### Adjusting the quantity of a product in the basket

Sales associates can select to adjust the quantity of a product in the basket using the ‘QTY’ dropdown where they can set the quantity to a maximum of 10.

### Removing products from the basket

Sales associates can remove individual products from the basket using the bin icon or select ‘clear all’, which will clear all products from the basket as well as the customer associated with the basket.

### Basket Summary

The basket displays a breakdown of:

- All product(s) added to the basket
- Total number of items
- Subtotal

Each product in the basket displays:

- Product image
- Product name
- Brand name
- Variant name
- Unit price
- Total price
- QTY

### Email Basket

If the customer is not ready to make the purchase, the sales associate has the option to email the contents of the basket to the customer.

The email can be set up in two ways:

1. If the Ecom product links have been provided in the retailer's product data we can include these as hyperlinks against each product in the email. We can also append predefined UTM parameters to the product links, so in the event the customer places an order online this can be attributed back to the sales associate who initiated the sale
2. If the retailer can provide us with a method for sending the basket contents to their website we can provide the customer with a single basket link. Selecting the link will navigate the customer to the retailer's website with their basket pre-populated

> ℹ️ The template of the email that the customer receives can be configured based on the needs of the retailer.

The email basket journey can be configured to pass additional information into the email, for example, if you wanted to include a coupon / promotional code for the customer to use when placing their order online.

Once the basket has been sent to the customer a ‘Referral’ order is created in our system, containing the list of products sent.

### Save Basket

If a sales associate has products in the basket but needs to log out (either because they are sharing a device or perhaps they temporarily need to login to a different store) they will be shown a prompt asking them whether they would like to save the basket contents.

Selecting to save the basket will retain the contents of the basket in the store they were logged into, so they next time they login to that store they can pick up the basket where they left off.

## Stock Check Before Checkout

Our basket functionality includes an optional stock check configuration designed to help prevent overselling. This feature ensures that sales associates can only proceed to checkout when sufficient stock is available for all items in the basket.

#### How Stock Check Works

- **Stock Validation on Checkout Attempt:**
When the sales associate attempts to proceed to checkout, the system performs a stock check on all product variants in the basket.
  - By default, this process uses the stock levels stored in the *Variant Store Stock* table.
  - If integrated with a third-party stock management system, real-time stock checks can also be supported.
- **Insufficient Stock Handling:**
If the stock level of any product variant:
  - Has changed to zero, or
  - Is insufficient to fulfill the requested quantity, the system will prevent the user from entering checkout.
- **Alert Notification:**
An alert is displayed, informing the sales associate of:
  - The product(s) that are out of stock or have insufficient stock.
  - Adjustments required to reduce the quantity of the product(s) to proceed.
- **Resolution Requirement:**
The sales associate must address the stock issue by either:
  - Removing the out-of-stock product(s), or
  - Adjusting quantities for items with insufficient stock.

Once the stock issues are resolved, the sales associate can successfully proceed to checkout.
