## Overview

Sales associates have the option to search the catalogue via the search bar or scan the product barcode.

## Search configurations

Product search can be initiated from the parent category page, which will run over the entire catalogue, or via the PLP for a more contextual search.

We are integrated with Elasticsearch, a search engine designed to store and analyse large volumes of data in near-real-time. This enables sales associates to conduct quick fuzzy searches across the entire product catalogue.

As standard, the search will run across a sub-set of the most relevant product data fields (see below), however, we can extend this to run over additional fields where required.

> ℹ️ Elasticsearch works best when it’s configured to meet retailer search parameters.

| **Field** | **Definition** |
| --- | --- |
| `externalProductID` | Typically the unique number that identifies an individual product on your site |
| `name` | The name of the product as displayed to the customer |
| `brand` | The brand associated with the product |
| `details` | This includes the product “`summary`", "`description`" and “`searchTerms`" |

> ℹ️ Through Elasticsearch we can tune the search experience. We can change how fields are weighted against one another, optimising for the needs of your business.

## Scan products

If the sales associates' device has a built-in camera they can use this to “Scan” a product barcode, which will automatically re-direct them to the associated product details with the associated variant pre-selected from the dropdown.

If the device doesn’t have a built-in camera, they can simply type in the EAN to look up the product.

> ⚠️ Searching/scanning products by barcode is only supported if the retailer provides the `ean` in the product variant data.

As standard, we support the following International Article Number standards:

- UPC (Universal Product Number)
- EAN-13

> ℹ️ EANs can only contain numbers, and must be between 12 and 13 digits.
