## Overview

RetailOS is pre-integrated with [Stripe](https://stripe.com/gb) which can be utilised by retailers to create and send payment links to customers, allowing them to make payments at their convenience.

Whilst this payment option is primarily designed to be used during a [virtual consultation](https://redantdigital.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RET/pages/114556979), it can be utilised through basket and in-store consultation checkout journeys.

Below are the 6 key steps to complete a Stripe pay-by-link payment during a virtual consultation:

1. The sales associate and customer create a mutual basket during a virtual consultation
2. The sales associate initiates checkout and selects ‘Pay by link’ as the customers chosen payment method
3. The customer receives a [payment request email ](https://redantdigital.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RET/pages/284688486/Customer+Emails+-+Templates+Updating#Payment-Requests%3A)with a breakdown of the product(s) in the order, including a link to pay
4. The customer selects the payment link within the email
5. The customer is navigated to the Stripe-hosted payment page where they can select and enter their payment details
6. The customer is redirected to a RetailOS-hosted payment success page to confirm their order has been successfully paid

### Payment link email

After the sales associate has selected ‘Pay by link’ as the customer's chosen payment method and requested payment, the customer will be sent an email containing the payment link and a breakdown of their order, including:

- Order number
- Order date
- Delivery Address
  - Delivery Type (e.g. Home / Collect from Store)
  - Delivery Method (e.g. Standard / Express)
- Products in the order, including price and variant(s)
- Total order value, including any delivery charges

### Stripe-hosted payment page

Upon selecting the payment link within the email, the customer will be redirected to a Stripe-hosted payment page where they will be displayed the name of the business they are paying, their order number, and the total value to pay.

The customer can enter their payment details and select pay.

> ℹ️ By default, Stripe enables cards and other prevalent payment methods that can help you reach more customers, and you can turn on or turn off payment methods right from the [Stripe Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payment_methods). Stripe evaluates the currency, payment method restrictions, and other parameters to determine the list of supported payment methods to show in Checkout.

### RetailOS-hosted payment success page

After the customer has successfully completed payment they will be automatically redirected to a RetailOS-hosted payment success page which displays a confirmation that the payment was successful, their order number, and details on who to contact if they have any problems with their order.

> ℹ️ The styling and page content for the payment success page can be configured based on the needs of the retailer.

### Expired payment link

There are 3 scenarios where the payment link can expire:

- Stripe Checkout sessions automatically expire 24 hours after they have been created - this means if a customer fails to complete payment within this period their payment link can no longer be used
- If payment has already been processed the link will expire - this prevents the customer from accidentally paying for the order twice
- If the sales associate cancels the order (via Order Management) before the customer completes the payment the link will expire

> ℹ️ If a customer attempts to visit the payment page they will be displayed a message informing them that the link has expired.

### Copy payment link

In the event the customer cannot locate the payment link email the sales associate has the option to copy the payment link from the consultation summary page (which is displayed to them after the payment has been requested) or via the associated Order Details page.

If the customer is still in the consultation the sales associate can simply paste the payment link into the Zoom chat, otherwise they can paste the link into a new message and send it via the customer's desired communication channel.

> ℹ️ The option to copy payment link is only available whilst the order is in the status of ‘Awaiting Payment’. If the order has been paid or cancelled the option to copy the payment link option will no longer be available within the Order Details. This is to avoid the sales associate accidentally sending an expired payment link to the customer.

## Setup

### FAQs

<details>
<summary>Does Stripe Checkout sessions support Apple Pay and Google Pay?</summary>

Yes! Stripe Checkout doesn’t need configuration or integration changes to enable Apple Pay or Google Pay. Stripe handles these payments the same way as other card payments.

**Apple Pay**

A Checkout Session displays the Apple Pay button when all the following apply:

- Your [Stripe Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/checkout) has Apple Pay enabled for Checkout.
- The customer’s device is running macOS 10.14.1+ or iOS 12.1+.
- The customer is using the Safari browser.
- The customer has a valid card registered with Apple Pay.

This ensures that Checkout only displays the Apple Pay button to customers who are able to use it.

**Google Pay**

A Checkout Session displays the Google Pay button when all the following apply:

- Your [Stripe Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/checkout) has Google Pay enabled for Checkout.
- The customer is using Google Chrome or Safari.
- The customer has a valid card registered with Google Pay.

This ensures that Checkout only displays the Google Pay button to customers who are able to use it.

<details>
<summary>Can I change the time limit that payment links are active for?</summary>

Yes, the Checkout Session expiry time can be set anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours, by default the value is 24 hours from creation.
</details>

<details>
<summary>When I copy the payment link into a message the link is really long. Can the payment link be shortened or be made to look friendlier?</summary>

Yes - When selecting to copy the payment link from the consultation summary or within the order details we can generate a friendly payment link hosted on your desired sub-domain (e.g. `https://clientelling.retailer.com/order/{id}/pay` ) which you can then paste into a message to send to your customer.

When the customer opens the link, RetailOS fetches and redirects the customer to the Stripe payment URL.
