## Overview

Scandit is a technology company that specialises in smart data capture. The company offers a range of software tools and applications that utilise the power of mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices, to allow sales associates to perform advanced barcode scanning and data capture tasks.

RetailOS is pre-integrated with the Scandit SDK to provide an elevated barcode scanning experience in-store.

## Key Benefits

1. **Speed and Accuracy:** Scandit's computer vision algorithms are optimised for speed and accuracy. It can quickly and reliably decode barcodes, even in challenging conditions such as low light, glare, or at awkward angles. Native camera apps might struggle to provide consistent and fast results in such scenarios.
2. **Advanced Barcode Types:** Scandit supports a wide range of barcode types, including 1D barcodes (like UPC and EAN) and 2D codes (like QR codes and Data Matrix). This means you can use a single solution for multiple barcode types, whereas native cameras might be limited in the types they can reliably scan.
3. **Damaged Barcode Handling:** Scandit's technology can read damaged, smudged, or partially obscured barcodes. Native cameras might have difficulty reading such barcodes, leading to errors or delays.
4. **Augmented Reality (AR) Overlay:** Scandit's software can provide an augmented reality overlay to guide users when scanning. This ensures that they capture the barcode properly, reducing errors and the need for retakes. Native cameras lack this specialised guidance.
5. **Focus Assistance:** Scandit provides focus assistance to ensure that barcodes are captured accurately. Native cameras might lack these specialised features.
6. **Cross-Platform Consistency:** Scandit's technology provides consistent performance across different devices and operating systems. Native cameras can vary in performance depending on the device's hardware and software.
7. **Continuous Updates:** Scandit regularly updates its algorithms and features to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with new devices and operating system versions. Native camera apps might not receive the same level of ongoing updates.

## Consecutive Scanning

When Scandit is initiated from the basket sales associates can begin scanning barcodes consecutively at high speed without needing to adjust the device's positioning or restart the scanning procedure. This functionality proves valuable when users wish to add multiple of the same item or a range of products to the basket.

This streamlined and instinctive approach enhances the efficiency of the checkout process, making it more efficient compared to using a native camera app, which would require the user to re-initiate and manually align the barcode for each scan.

### Scan Settings

Configuring the sensitivity of the scanning function within the Scandit configuration allows you to fine-tune the responsiveness and accuracy of the barcode scanning process. By adjusting sensitivity settings, we can optimise the software's performance to match your specific scanning environment and use case.

Within the Scandit configuration settings, there are options to control sensitivity parameters. Increasing sensitivity enhances the software's ability to capture barcodes in challenging conditions, such as low light or distorted barcodes. Conversely, decreasing sensitivity can make the software less prone to false positives in environments with consistent lighting and clear barcodes.

Finding the right sensitivity level is crucial for achieving efficient and accurate scanning results.

## Commercial considerations

In order to enable Scandit within a client rollout, there is an uplift in licences based upon number of devices using the functionality. Costs can be provided upon request.
